NEW HAVEN >> The crossroad of Turkey’s European and Asian influences is forging a path through the Elm City’s downtown district.
It’s how Jack Donmez characterizes his new restaurant, the appropriately named Midpoint Istanbul, which held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting at its 245 Crown St. storefront Thursday afternoon.
The new restaurant is housed at the site of a previous Turkish-style restaurant, Istanbul Cafe. Donmez said he wanted to revamp the space with a more modern aesthetic from his home country while paying homage to Istanbul’s unique location near two continents. Donmez’s hometown in Turkey, Edirne, sits near the country’s border with Bulgaria and Greece.
